Now that the Democrats have the reins again, the chatter has begun about Universal Health Care. The Governator already is trying to push this on Californians. Would somebody explain how this can be done? What programs will be cut or will taxes be raised?
If a budget is trimmed from one and put to this program, what program will suffer? My bet, Military and Intelligence. They seem to be the scapegoats for every new social program that comes along. The first question I have for the legislators is, what right do you have to take money I have earned and give it to somebody else? I accept paying taxes for schools, hospitals, and infrastructure programs to keep our society going. I accept paying military, police, and firefighters who are there to protect me. I do not accept having my money taken to be funneled through a dense bureacracy and then piddled to people who should be looking after their own. A helping hand is one thing a handout is another.
I have seen how the health care in Europe and Canada works. NO THANK YOU. It wouldn't be any more affective here. The amount of paperwork that a Doctor's office has to push through is already bad enough. Will this eliminate lawsuits against doctors? No. In fact they will increase. When a person has to wait 6 months to see a doctor and then finds out he has cancer beyond cure, the lawsuits will start flying.
I am fortunate to have a company that contributes to paying my health insurance. If I didn't I would have to decide yes or no on whether I purchased my own. This is a family decision not a government one. Health Care is just another way for the government to work it's way into my life. If they set up the bureacracy then they control the rules. If they control the rules they control what I do. This is Socialism at best and Communism at worst. This is another step in the process to remove individuality and degrade the value of a person.
JD at Conservative Sense wrote a good piece on this yesterday. I recommend reading it. If we go down this path we are no longer the America that our Founding Fathers and all of our forefathers imagined. We will become their worst nightmare. The money I earn belongs to me and mine. It is up to me how I decide to use it. The more money the government takes, the less I have and the less I control my own life. The Soviet Union may have fell, but it's ideas have permeated the political parties of the United States. This is a travesty.
